Statue of Liberty, the pride and symbol of New York, it was not made in New York. The statue, designed by French sculptor, Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi was first built and developed in France in 1884. Statue of Goddess of Independence was presented by the people of France to the American people, as a birthday gift to the American Independence 100. Once completed in France, the statue was disassembled, and packed in 200 large loads to be sent to America. Statue of Liberty then reassembled at the Bedloe's Island at the mouth of the harbor city of New York. So long this packing process, until the new Statue of Liberty could be inaugurated on October 28, 1886, ten years after the anniversary of American independence to 100.
